The harsh cold months are hard on my skin (not my face…that’s always oily.) But my poor elbows and hands, they take a beating. Thankfully there are ways to help prevent the dryness and keep my skin supple, so I’m sharing a few tips that you can start now, to help with the upcoming colder months.
Stay Hydrated
I feel like a broken record when I say this, because I’m constantly telling the kiddos at work to drink plenty of water…but water is essential in more ways than one. While you may not feel thirsty during the cooler months, your skin still needs the hydration just as much as it did during the summer months, so drink up!
Exfoliate
For facial skin, stick to using gentle exfoliants. You want to exfoliate around 1-2 times a week, you don’t want to over-exfoliate and dry out your skin even more.
You also want to exfoliate your entire body, around 1-2 times a week as well. I like to make my own since I have sensitive skin and it’s a so cheap to do!
Which brings me to a super easy DIY Pumpkin Spice body scrub! Seriously, you probably have every single ingredient in your pantry right now.
What You Need:
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/4 cup of coconut oil
2 tsp of vanilla extract
2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
1/4 tsp of cinnamon
Simply melt the coconut oil and mix all ingredients together until desired consistency. Pour into an air-tight jar. It’s that simple!
The measurements above fit perfectly into one of the glass jars I used.
You guys know I’m obsessed with all things pumpkin-flavored, so I just had to share this easy body scrub with you all. It smells heavenly!
Moisturize
No matter the season, it’s always important to moisturize…yes, even if you have oily skin…always moisturize your entire body. I like using products that are easy to find, easy to use, and smell good! So the Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizers have been a go to for me. They can be found at Walmart in the beauty section, are inexpensive and have a variety of scents.
My personal favorite fragrance is the Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Refreshing Coconut Oil — the newest scent, Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer with Cherry Almond Essence, smells amazing as well, which by the way, is exclusive to Walmart.
And these are SO easy to use, you simply apply to wet skin (yes, WET SKIN, not dry or damp) after showering. Use about a dime-sized amount for each extremity. Dry as normal, and you’re good to go! It immediately absorbs for faster moisturization — the essential oils in the Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer work with the water to lock in moisture. Giving you all day softness! HUGE bonus points…it’s lightweight, non-sticky and makes moisturizing every day so much easier, so you’re less likely to skip any days.
