There are plenty of bloggers who have the luxury of blogging full-time — unfortunately, I am not one of them. So trying to balance working full-time and a blog can get hectic — especially when your blog is your side hustle and actually bringing in some extra cash! The end goal for me is to work smarter, not harder.
Plan Smarter
Most of you know that I’m a type a person — especially when it comes to my job and my blog — everything else, not so much. But I’ve learned over the last few months that planning things in a smarter way is so much more productive. Don’t try to tackle too many things at once or in one day, you will get overwhelmed and eventually end up giving up. Instead write out your weekly to-do’s and spread them out evenly throughout the week. I’ve created this printable weekly to-do checklist that you can have for FREE!

Get Ahead
I love to be ahead, it not only gives me some extra free time but you can also use that time to be even more productive. If you have finished your tasks for the day and have an extra few minutes to spare…why not move on the the next days tasks. I also like to stay on top of trends and see what’s coming up so that I can have a 30 day editorial calendar laid out. Some bloggers have up to 90 day calendars ready to go — I can’t do more than 30 days.
Have A Back-Up Plan
Unfortunately things come up, with both work and life, so having a back-up plan is essential. Some bloggers don’t mind skipping a day or two, I personally don’t like to, but it does happen every once in a while. So if something pops up, I like to have 2-3 drafts that are ready to be published — you can find 40 blog post ideas here and 40 MORE ideas here! These 80 ideas make great back-up posts and can fit just about any lifestyle blog.
If you can! I’m lucky to have a job where I’m not only taking care of kids, but I also have access to my blog right in my office. Since I’m always at work an extra 15-20 minutes before kids show up — I will get some work in, as well as during my lunch and any little breaks I get in between. I know not everyone has jobs where they can work on their blog — but you can easily reply to emails from your phone, brainstorm ideas on your phone, work on your monthly calendar, etc. 20 extra minutes can make a big difference, especially when all you want to do when you get home from work is relax.
Stick To A Routine
Once you find the groove of what works best for you and your blog — stick to it! If you have a certain way of planning your posts but a big blogger shares a different way that works for her, don’t feel the need to change things up. Different things work for different people. I’ve shared plenty of my tips along my blogging career, but they don’t fit everyone’s lifestyle — and that’s fine.

Don’t Forget About Yourself
Overall, if it’s too much work, too much stress and more of a hassle than it is fun — take a break, reconsider your plan, and always remember to put yourself and your family first! If you need a break, take a break — take time for yourself — everything else will fall into place.
If you are a full-time #girlboss and a blogger, I really hope these tips are helpful. It’s hard work, but it’s fun and oh so worth it!
