Hey lovelies! Everyone’s probably heard a list of DO’s and DON’TS for makeup, hair, etc. Forget about them! Rules are made to be BROKEN! Here’s a list of 5 beauty “rules” I find myself breaking all the time, try them out.
Rule #1: Only use lip liner to “line” the lips.
Tracing your lips becomes scary as the day wears on and your lipstick/lipgloss wears off. Avoid the dreaded dark outline by filling in your lips, not only does it look better, but it also boosts the staying power of your gloss or lipstick.
Tip: Make sure the lip liner and the lipstick shade are close in color.
Rule #2: Only use brushes to apply makeup.
You can use your fingers–I know, I know, germs! Remember to always wash your hands before applying makeup. Your fingers help warm up the product, making it easier to work with and giving it a more natural look. I also highly, highly recommend using the ever famous, Beauty Blender–ahhh, it’s amazing! Great for liquid foundations and concealers. It is pricey, but you can find similar products at drugstores…even on Amazon!
Tip: Keep hand sanitizer on your vanity, it will come handy when doing your makeup.
Rule #3: Wash your hair everyday.
Over washing hair leaves it dry (even if you have oily hair) and your scalp will produce more oils to compensate for the loss of moisture. Also, second day hair is more manageable and has good texture. I find my hair holds a better curl with second day hair. So skip shampooing, and wear a cute, messy bun or beachy curls.
Tip: Use a dry shampoo on days you don’t wash your hair, I recommend this one.
Rule #4: Only curl your lashes before applying mascara.
Personally, I curl my lashes, apply mascara, and curl them again. Now, I wait for my mascara to completely dry, so while my lashes dry, I finish styling my hair or go off and do something–it takes a good 10 minutes to dry. You will see your lashes will hold the curl all day long, especially if you use waterproof mascara.
Tip: The key is to curl your lashes very gently, you don’t want to snag them. So be gentle.
Rule #5: Focus on one feature only.
Want to rock a smoky eye but you also want to show off your new bold red lipstick? Traditionally smoky eye looks are to be paired with a nude lip, and a bold lip to be paired with a natural eye look. Unless you are planning on wearing pounds of black eyeshadow, then there’s no reason why you can’t have both. So dare to be bold!
Tip: The key to a great smoky eye, is blending that eyeshadow well.
There you have it, you don’t have to always follow the rules, especially when it comes to makeup. I hope you guys enjoyed this post and will be trying some of these tips soon.
