I tend to be an over-packer by nature — I’m the type of person that will pack something “in case I need it” and 99% of the time I don’t end up using it! Not only is it a struggle when we travel, but it was also a struggle when I was in college, nursing school and even now that I work. I’m sure I’m not alone, at least I hope not, so I put together some of my tried and true tips on how to pack your work or school bag.
Tip #1 — Avoid Buying A Bag That Is TOO Big
The bigger the bag, the more stuff you’ll want to pack in it. I carry a medium sized tote — it has a decent size zipper pocket and it’s divided in the middle by a big zipper pocket. It’s just the right size and it helps keep my things organized.
Tip #2 — Use Small Pouches To Avoid A Mess
Before switching to this method, I struggled to even find a pen! So now I carry different pouches for different things. I carry my wristlet — which houses my driver’s license, cash, cards, keys and phone — I also carry a pen/pencil pouch, a toiletries bag, and a snack bag.
Tip #3 — Only Pack The Essentials
Easier said than done, I know. If you’ve been a long-time follower, than you probably know I am obsessed with makeup, but can you believe that I do not carry any makeup with me? (Okay, maybe just a lipgloss and lip balm) I stick to the essentials — blotting sheets, a mirror, hair ties, deodorant, dry shampoo, a rollerball and a manicure set — only because I often break my nails or get hangnails and like to take care of it ASAP.
Tip #4 — Always Carry Snacks
While sometimes it can be tempting to hit the vending machine, it’s definitely not the smartest choice. I like to carry snacks that are filling and have protein to help keep me going. Some of my recent favorites are the Special K® Protein Bars, Special K® Protein Bites, and the Special K Nourish® Bars! I’ve always been a snacker and don’t always make the smartest choices, so carrying something in my bag that is handy works best for me.
What I like best about the SPECIAL K NOURISH® BARS is that they come in a variety of flavors, are chewy with a hint of crunch, have the right amount of sweet and salty, and best of all I can find them at Target! #win And if you have the CartWheel App (which you totally should if you shop Target a lot) you can save some money on these goodies!
While the Nourish bars are full of unique and on-trend flavors, I like to reach for the Protein bars when I’m running on fumes. They have 8 grams of protein — which is essential to fuel your body when you are on the go — and they come in popular and familiar flavors. The Bites are even more practical as you can just pop and go!
If you are someone that prefers chips — the Sour Cream and Onion Cracker Chips are amazing! They are definitely the perfect snack to help satisfy your salty and crunchy craving!
Tip #5 — Pack Your Bag The Night Before
Sometimes I hit the snooze button one too many times, so having my bag packed and ready to go is key. It’s also a great way to start your day — you are prepared, organized, and ready to tackle work. Starting the mornings off late, in a rush and unprepared are the worst — they just throw your entire day off! So take an extra 10 minutes the night before, get your bag organized and ready for the next day — trust me, you won’t regret it.
I hope these tips can help you pack your bag and not worry about over-packing or forgetting something for your busy day at work or school. For more Kellogg inspiration, please check out THIS LINK!
